In March 1917,Charles Lathrop Pack organized the National War Garden Comission.During World War 1 food growth had fallen Dramatically.Charles put together the use of land and manpower to make war gardens.War gardens or victory gardens were planted at private places and public parks in the United States, also in the UK,Canada and Germany. These gardens were brought about during World War 1 and World War 2 to reduce the stress on public food supply brought on by the war effort.Charles Lathrop Pack ,a third generation Timberman was one of the five wealthiest men in America prior to World War 1.

Some of the effects of the National War Garden Comission ,was that by the end of the war five million gardens were planted.Another effect was World War 2 started.Mostly it was for war efforts.National gardens were grown in backyards ,rooftops ,and parks ,also empty lots,or land.Americans grew vegetables .fruits, and herbs.Propaganda posters were put up to influence Americans to plant a garden to put a effort in the war.

World War 1

                               http://www.english.illinois.edu/Maps/ww1/images/10.jpg

The three causes of World War 1 are Militarism ,Imperialism, and Nationalism.Militarism is a political orientation of a people, or a government to maintain a strong military force, and to be prepared to use it aggressively, to defend or promote national interest.Imperialism is the policy or practice of expanding a country's influence, over other territories by conquest ,colonization,or economic domination.Nationalism is devotion to the interests or culture of one's on country.Having pride in one's own country.

The United States joined in the war because of the sinking on the Lusitania.1195 people died including 128 Americans. On April  6,1917 the US joined the war.More than 2 million US soldiers fought on battlefields in France. The US wanted to stay neutral. But they could'nt stay neutral after the Lusitania was sunk.So they joined World War 1.

The war brought change in America. For an example women who helped in the war were finally given the right to vote.Women were able to be fully employed .The treaty of Versailles was also signed that set limits on the future of Germany. The US won World War 1 and set up the League of Nations to decide on what to do with Germany and Italy.

World War 1

The explosive that was World War One had been long in the stockpiling; the spark was the assassination of Archduke Franz Ferdinand , heir to the Austro-Hungarian throne, in Sarajevo on 28 June 1914.Also World War One started because of  militarism.Militarism is a political orientation of a people or a government to maintain a strong military force and to be prepared to use it aggressively to defend or promote national interest.World War One started because of an alliance. An alliance is an agreement or friendship between two or more parties, made in order to advance common goals and to secure common interest.Imperialism is another reason for World War One.Imperialism is the policy or practice of extending a country's influence over other territories by conquest, colonization,or economic domination. The last reason is nationalism.Nationalism is devotion to the interest or culture of one's nation.

Europe wanted to team up so when it was time for war they would have each other's back.Militarism is when countries want to have power.A alliance system is a armed force.A group of country is when two countries come together and make an agreement to protect each other.

The U.S. became involved in World War One because of  the sinking of the British passenger Lusitania, where a number of U.S. citizens died. Also after submarines sank seven U.S. merchants ships and the publication of  the Zimmerman telegram,Wilson called for war on Germany, which the U.S.congress declared on April 6, 1917.The U.S. went to war against Germany in April 1917.

Homestead Act (1862) &Chinese Exclusion Act (1882)

The Homestead Act, enacted during the Civil War in 1862, provided that any adult citizen, or intended citizen, who had never borne arms against the U.S. government could claim 160 acres of surveyed government land. Claimants were required to “improve” the plot by building a dwelling and cultivating the land. After 5 years on the land, the original filer was entitled to the property, free and clear, except for a small registration fee. Title could also be acquired after only a 6-month residency and trivial improvements, provided the claimant paid the government $1.25 per acre. After the Civil War, Union soldiers could deduct the time they had served from the residency requirements.

Passed in 1882, the Chinese Exclusion Act prohibited the immigration of Chinese laborers for ten years. The law, which repudiated the 1868 Burlingame Treaty promising free immigration between the United States and China, was one in the succession of laws produced by a national anti-Chinese movement. Limited federal intervention began as early as the 1862 regulation of "coolies"; the Page Law of 1875 purported to prevent As America's first race-based immigration restrictions, the anti-Chinese laws caused the decrease of the Chinese-American population from 105,465 in 1880 to 61,639 in 1920. Chinese were again allowed to immigrate in 1943. The last vestiges of the Asian exclusion laws were repealed in 1965, when racial classifications were removed from the law.

"Splendid Little War"

I do agree with that attitude. I agree with Josiah Strong,he was concened about other people.  And all the war going on has nothing to do with the backward peopl. So they should'nt be affected, and left with no home. At least they deserve the blessing of civilization. I do agree with this attitude towards backwards people.

I don't think that newspaper or now telvision can stir up much feeling thst it can create war. Because not everybody believes what they hear on T.V. Or stories in a newspaper.Sometimes they are false information, and the truth might be stretched. So i don't think something like a newspaper or T.V. can just start a war automatically.http://staff.imsa.edu/socsci/jvictory/expansion00/phil_amerwar/tourism/people_phil_costumes.GIF

Japan Tsunami

Japan was hit by one of the largest earthquakes ever recorded on March 11. The magnitude-9.0 quake spawned a deadly tsunami that slammed into the small island nation, leaving a huge swath of devastation in its wake. Thousands of people are dead and many more are still missing or injured; almost half a million people are homeless.
In addition, the country is facing a nuclear crisis that some experts warn may be much worse than the 1979 Three Mile Island disaster.
Japan has often donated when other countries have experienced disasters, such as when Hurricane Katrina impacted the United States. So the united states is putting together ways they can help Japan in their devastating time of need.In the wake of the current nuclear crisis in Japan, New York Attorney General Eric Schneiderman said Friday that the federal government must conduct a seismic study of the Indian Point nuclear power plant before it renews its operating license. The United States needs to focus more on natural disaster preparedness plans, because it is evident that such plans were able to save lives in the Tsunami that devastated Japan.
